Judo: Teddy Riner on the roof of the world! – The Parisian

It is now seven times world champion in more than 100 kilos (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015) and was titled in 2008 in all categories.

The French won Final passing a waza-ari and yuko against the Japanese Ryu Shichinohe, who had given him a hard time last year at the World Championships in Chelyabinsk (Russia). He had previously won all his fights by ippon in the day.

With this new victory, Riner wears his unbeaten run to 95 fights without defeat. He has not been beaten since September 2010 and the final of the World Championships in all categories, while bowed on arbitrators’ decision after extra time against the Japanese Daiki Kamikawa. Before joining Global, Riner had however spent little time on the tatami this season. Right elbow surgery in February, he had injured a toe of the right foot a month later. His last competition dates back to the end of May, the Master in Rabat.

Teddy Riner brings the second world title in France this week, after that of Gévrise Emane Friday less than 70 kilos. The other French committed Saturday Cyrille Maret, narrowly failed for the final bronze medal in less than 100 kilos. He was defeated ippon to 5 seconds from the end of the small final by Belgian Toma Nikiforov.
