Roger Federer has a seventh title in Cincinnati, beating Novak Djokovic – Eurosport.fr

Federer is decidedly eternal. The Swiss won on Sunday in his 24th Masters 1000 Cincinnati career, the first since October 2014 in Shanghai, after his success in the final against Novak Djokovic (7-6, 6-3 in 1:30 game). A cut above the Serbian during the meeting, the Swiss definitely made Ohio his favorite playground. Here he is with his record seventh title in a “ Cincy “. Defeated by Andy Murray in Toronto last week, Djokovic will address the US Open with mixed feelings.

Never beaten in the final in Cincinnati, Roger Federer enforce its law in his garden. He especially made a series of three consecutive defeats in finals of major events against the Serbian in 2015 (Masters 1000 Indian Wells Masters 1000 Rome and Wimbledon). A series that, despite a certain logic in sport, was somewhat tarnished the overall balance of the season. As in 2014, and out of a final lost Wimbldon, Federer handed the machine on. And with the way.

The success of Federer this week is above all that of solidity. Excellent in the game and in control since Tuesday, the Swiss went to the continuity in the final. Even with an average percentage of first balls (55%), he compensated with an aggressiveness in trade (83% of points behind his first earned) and a desire to go forward always constant (32 shots winners) . Although set forehand, able to hold on diagonal backhand, and systematically carried forward (21 points gained out of 29 mounted), their tactical approach was the right one.

At home on her involved, Federer held this final one end to the other, even to the point of not conceding a single break point on his commitment. He even went to assault a Djokovic, not bad but a tone underneath, back into service from the beginning of the meeting. If he could not convert his four break points obtained on the first two world No.1 service games, he handed the fight in the decisive game he flew (7-1). The key moment in this final.

Saved by his first serves in the first set, Djokovic did not keep the distance thereafter. Breake second round of input, the “ Djoker “, deprived of reliable service (59% raw, 4 double faults) constantly ran after the score. His little start obtained (2-4), where for the first time of the meeting he got a tie on the service of his opponent, gave nothing more than a slight cold sweat at Basel. Cincinnati cursed land “ Nole “. The Serbian now totals five defeats in the finals in the last Masters 1000 that still resists him. The prior US Open is definitely not his thing. And this US Open, he promises much.
