French Open: Monfils will not join Tsonga in the quarterfinals – The World

Monfils was questioned but has not found the answers to counter the Swiss machine knockout round on Monday. Although set more aggressive in trade, Federer won in four sets (6- 3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1).

One last forehand too long the French. And the match was folded. Gael Monfils never seemed to wake up Monday 1 st June to Roger Federer (seeded No. 2) in the fourth round of the Internationaux de France. Too soft in its strikes, he left the Swiss dictate trade and win 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in two hours and ten minutes.

C It is the fourth time that eliminates Federer Monfils at Roland Garros; he had dominated in the semifinals in 2008 and quarterfinals in 2009 and 2011. A good sign for Switzerland, on these three occasions, he had reached the final. Monfils remained two victories on clay against Federer. He had beaten last December in the final of the Davis Cup in Villeneuve d’Ascq (won by Switzerland). And he repeated this performance in April in the fourth round in Monte Carlo.

These two victories allowed to “The Monf ” to approach this match with optimism. Especially as his confidence was further increased after his victories in five sets in the second round against Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman, and in the third round against the Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas (No. 21).

Monfils disillusioned

But the shock was much anticipated pschitt. The second set, played Sunday night before the interruption, yet foreshadowed a real struggle. Monfils took the ascendancy over the Helvète to win 6-4 on a backhand winner that public Philippe Chatrier court received with noise and clatter. But on Monday, the resumption of the game, the Habs Win hopes were quickly shattered against the realistic gaming Federer. The Swiss (tournament winner in 2009), took advantage of mistakes of French to break the input. The French semifinalist in Paris in 2008, had a ball “débreak” to 4-3 for Federer, but he could not convert. Sufficient advance that Switzerland maintained easily to pocket the third set 6-4.

The last set was virtually one-way. Gael Monfils squandered points, trying improbable shots often losers, and did not seem to develop any real tactical game. Federer was content to maintain their level of play, and took three times the service a Monfils completely disillusioned.

Roger Federer will play for its 44 th quarter-final in a Grand Slam compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka, who defeated Sunday in another Habs Gilles Simon (6-1, 6-4, 6-2).

Chardy also inclines

Jeremy Chardy has tried everything against Andy Murray in the fourth round. He clung to win the second set, but is logically inclined in four sets against the solid Scots (6-4, 3-6, 6 -3, 6-3).

The adage “never two without three” does not always hold. After two victories against American John Isner (No. 17 seeded) and Belgian David Goffin (No. 16), Jeremy Chardy fell on a Scottish bone knockout in the person of Andy Murray. The Briton wobbled but did not give in against the big dish of French strikes and won in four sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2).

Richard Gasquet plays Monday. It is the latest Habs join Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who defeated the Czech Tomas Berdych on Sunday in the final Porte d’Auteuil quarter. But the task is complicated – if unlikely – for Gasquet. The quarterfinals doors guardian is named Novak Djokovic. And the Serbian, incidentally world No. 1, does not wish to be deprived of a possible clash in the quarterfinals against Rafael Nadal, the defending champion. Even less by an opponent that has dominated 10 times in 11 games.
