FIFA scandal: the communications director resigns – The World

Walter De Gregorio, Director of the FIFA Communications, resigned from office on June 11

The communications director of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Walter De Gregorio, resigned Thursday, June 11 from his post latest episode of alleged corruption scandal that has rocked the organization.

The reasons of departure “with immediate effect” , were not specified. In a statement, FIFA simply said that his deputy, the French Nicolas Maingeot, will the interim. The resigning, arrived at FIFA in September 2011, however, continue to act as “consultant until the end of the year” .

The case shaking FIFA led its president Joseph Blatter to announce his resignation on June 2, four days after his re-election for a fifth term. The departure of Switzerland should be effective only after the election of his successor, which is not expected before the end of 2015, which led the European Parliament to adopt a text Thursday urging him to leave the head of the organization immediately

The MEPs voted by a large majority show of hands, for this text the bright tone against FIFA, prepared jointly by the seven political groups of the Assembly, meeting in plenary session in Strasbourg.
