Corruption: The 1998 World Cup also concerned – France Info

In the “FIFAgate” folder, every day its share of revelations. On Wednesday, a day after the announcement of the resignation of Sepp Blatter, the US Department of Justice published the testimony in which Chuck Blazer, the FBI informant, pleaded guilty in 1993 as Executive Member of FIFA and General Secretary of CONCACAF. A statement in which Blazer reveals particular involvement in acts of corruption in the awarding of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 1998 World Cup in France.

“We have agreed to participate in a scheme to defraud FIFA and CONCACAF touching bribes. In 1992, I agreed with others to facilitate the acceptance of bribes in relation to the award of the 1998 World Cup, admits Blazer. It then continued between 2004 and 2011 with other executive members of FIFA, we have accepted bribes in connection with the appointment of South Africa as host of the World Cup 2010. “A Note that Chuck Blazer does not specify however which payments were from or to whom they were intended. Remember, France was in competition with Morocco in 1998 to organize the World Cup.
