MU, a long wait – Sports.fr

Thanks to two goals from Van Persie Monday night in Southampton (1-2) at the conclusion of the 15th day, Manchester United climb on the podium in the Premier League for the first time since the departure of Ferguson in spring 2013. Third, Van Gaal players find themselves eight points of Chelsea.

It is very far this time when Manchester United reminded critics that David Moyes had 17 points in the first 10 days, while Louis van Gaal did showed that 13 it two months ago. Since then, the Red Devils have bounced back and happy winners in Southampton (1-2) on Monday night, are found even on the podium after the 15th day of the Premier League. The top 3? A first since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, there is a year and a half!

All is not perfect, however. Brilliant offensively early season around Angel di Maria, MU has further been effective for a series of five wins in a row. In addition to dominating weak teams at Old Trafford (Crystal Palace, Hull and Stoke), Wayne Rooney and his teammates tear unexpected victories against competitors in the European qualification as Arsenal (2-1). This time, with the Saints who abandon their 3rd place, it’s Robin van Persie converted two rare occasions visitors: a huge mistake after the defender José Fonte (12th) and a recovery outside left on a long free kick (71).

Saved by a fatal RVP to finish, MU will not show anything else offensively, like a ghostly Juan Mata. But it’s defensively that Van Gaal team still worried. Again arranged in 3-5-2 (Smalling was injured in the first period, Evans came in and Carrick was placed behind), the Red Devils have shown very passive, as on the equalization of Pellè, after a scramble in the box (31 ‘).

Later, it was De Gea who saved his people before the Italian striker and Long (59th), again this season, to allow the UM podium without convincing. No question, moreover, to talk about the title race, as Chelsea are eight more units and City, five. Fortunately, the Liverpool this season, next opponent at home is even worse …
