the Brazilian Federal Police raided on Friday the home of the former president from 2003 to 2010 Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Sao Paulo.

He was taken for questioning in connection with the investigation of the corruption scandal Petrobras, said the spokesman for the Lula Institute. This comes after a spate of corruption allegations in the Petrobras scandal with the declaration of a senator, according to the press, involving President Rousseff and her predecessor Lula.

The police operation is part of the vast operation “Quick wash” launched in 2014 to investigate a vast network of corruption mounted within the state oil company Petrobras and which would have cost at least two billion dollars to the company. In this scandal revealed in March 2014, major construction companies in Brazil are suspected of having paid bribes to members of the government in power to divide the work and agree on billing prices.

200 policemen mobilized


 “Federal police conduct of searches at his home in the Lula Institute and at several of its employees and family members,” said José Chrispiniano, press secretary of former President Lula and the foundation that bears his name. He also confirmed that Lula was the subject of a warrant.

“Nearly 200 police officers executed 44 judicial warrants, 33 warrants of search and seizure and 11 arrest warrants in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Bahia,” said the Federal Police (PF ) in a statement
