Marseille – Rennes (2-5), the cheat sheet: And now, a shock for OM? – Eurosport

The game: Rennes was relentless, pathetic Marseille

This match was crazy. Rennes started the foot to the floor, enjoying the largesse of the Marseille defense, left the locker room for a portion of them were supporters remained outside the stadium. 0-3 in 14 minutes, the match was already folded after a quarter of an hour.

At the bottom of the abyss, OM resumed hope a feat Thauvin (20th), then a monstrous ball of Costil (50th). Despite their blunders, Michel’s men almost believed it, envy. But their defensive laxity and wait on Rennes mounted prevented them from successfully improbable comeback. Gourcuff (59th) and Sio (77th) reopened the gaping wounds of the Marseille rearguard. And were instantly forget the few flashes of a still amorphous OM at home.

The player Yoann Gourcuff has overshadowed everything else

All eyes were legitimately on Abou Diaby, waited on the ground with the OM jersey for the first time. We have almost forgotten the other great cripple French football, Yoann Gourcuff. It was he who initiated the hostilities in the third minute when he rose to head a ball that was originally sent to the action on the amount. Always well placed, he was alone nearly a dozen times on his left side when Rennes went into high gear against.

And when Marseille pushed to return, he is responsible for calm everyone down with a shot beyond twenty meters, on which Mandanda would perhaps have done better. Gourcuff made no noise, it was clean, and it was decisive. Then Ousmane Dembele (a goal and an assist nonetheless) was conspicuous by his inconstancy gestures between high-level and very unwelcome individualism, Gourcuff has delivered a game “stashed” (only 41 balls hit) but where everything turned into positive.

What could change everything: The emotional lift the 59th minute

59th minute, the center of Dja Djedje Brice seems to touch the arm of Sylvain Armand. The Marseillais are furious and stop playing. The idle shows that the ball touches the hip Rennes defender before tapping his hand. A change is then prepared: Yoann Gourcuff will give way.

But not before the following action: a against precisely led by the Breton midfielder. Gourcuff transplanted and triggers. His shot bounced just under the arms of Steve Mandanda. Rennes (re) made the hole (2-4) and will not be caught. In thirty seconds, the match could totally turn into the irrational, but Gourcuff has finally respect the logic of the game.

Weekend stat: 10

That was ten years Yoann Gourcuff had not scored with Stade Rennais (against Metz). With his double on Friday, Gourcuff has also registered his first goals in Ligue 1 since October 26, 2014, while still evolving with Lyon. And, again, it was against OM …

The tweet that sets the tone

“Being president of OM, I do not wish my worst enemy.”

The question: How Marseille can he do to react

?
We do not see how OM could dip lower. This Friday night, before the other matches of the 31st day Marseille has only 6 points ahead of the relegation zone. For European markets, the deal seems finally heard. The situation in Marseille, both for accounting in the game, is catastrophic. Against Rennes, the Marseille defense grazed the ridiculous. Nkoulou covers from Sio resulting in the first goal. The whole defense is sucked by the feint of Grosicki – yet seen and reviewed for several weeks Rennes side – the kick of 2-0. On the last goal of Sio, Rolando is two meters from the Breton striker while he is face to face last defender position in the box.

Yet Michel continues to have the support of the staff and players. After a (very) long minutes in the locker room after the game, Lassana Diarra is the first to have supported his coach. Vincent Labrune was subsequently could not be more clear: “ With Michel, anyway, we went together, we will end all .”

The president of the OM has several times repeated, it does not in any way the means to bring another coach on the Canebière. And certainly not by the end of this season. Jorge Sampaoli or Rudi Garcia would have made ideal candidates yet but it will be summer. On the back of the hand, Labrune also swept a possible internal solution, as Franck Passi. Michel remains at the head of the OM but can not remain in this position. And it will go through the game. We wish him good luck.
