Netherlands – France (2-3) – The cheat sheet: Deschamps was looking for a plan B in attack, he found – Eurosport

The game: In the control in the first period, much less in the second

Didier Deschamps may have some certainties about the first 45 minutes, when the French were very efficient on the collective level, in animation offensive as in the dry, and effective front with two consecutive goals at set pieces. There was less control after the break, also because the absence of a true sentinel was felt, having been replaced by Diarra Kante. The Blues were also less concentrated behind, like the Dutch equalizer goal, but they were able to show character under the leadership of Matuidi to take a definitive advantage in stride.

Players: Griezmann assumes his leadership, Payet scores

Scorer and very inspired also Griezmann was able to be the expected leader of the attack tricolor. This is of course with a very influential Payet for his return to blue. A tone below, Giroud was however decisive as Martial, entered at the break. In the middle, Matuidi had a volume of impressive game, while Diarra was impeccable sentry. Pogba took the waste and flashes, but also an important presence to the cleaners. Behind Evra was the greatest satisfaction. In Dutch, Cilessen did nothing wrong on the French goal, Klaassen has tried without much success, and de Jong, scorer, was also valuable back to goal.

What could have changed everything

A starts worthy of the name of the Netherlands. Maybe a little addition, the Dutch have been totally absent from the debate, especially in the first quarter of an hour when they conceded two goals. With a lack of involvement and general tactical organization very wobbly Danny Blind was able to correct after the break. The beautiful reaction of Oranje in the second half almost gives more regret at not having seen them evolve like that at first. Things would certainly have been much more complicated for the French.

The stat: 4

Olivier Giroud is on a very high rate with the tricolor jersey. Marking face the Netherlands, Arsenal striker signed his fourth goal in the last four matches of the France team. He also scored 4 goals in the last 7 France. If it has not been the most tricolor attacking verve in Amsterdam, his statistics speak for him though.

the declara: Didier Deschamps (France coach)

“There has been very good .. things collective expression was good We have made efforts, together “

the issue:. the attack of the Blues she showed that she could do without Benzema and Valbuena?

Yes, but it is imperative to consider the provision of Netherlands. Including the Dutch defense, whose difficulties were predictable enough to face the liveliness of Griezmann and Payet. But in the tactical discipline in the investment, and the involvement of duels, it really facilitated the task of the tricolor attack, especially in the first period. It was not the toughest test for Deschamps offensive animation.

But it has the merit of work, and very even. With a convincing Payet for his return to blue in his ability to take the tricolor game on his own, with Griezmann who knew how to be a decisive leader in the attack, with Giroud whose full profile perfectly that the two players mentioned and with Martial able to bring enormously by his speed and technique. In a joker role in Amsterdam, but why not as the owner later.

This match against the Netherlands showed that Deschamps had a lot of strings to his bow, even without Benzema and Valbuena. Two players who were indisputable holders Deschamps and which seem inevitably a little less necessary today. But this has to be qualified. Les Bleus meet stronger defenses than that of the Netherlands in the future.
