No Marseillaise in Bastia in the Corsican derby this weekend – L’Express

La Marseillaise will not sound this Saturday at 20h at the stadium of Furiani, Bastia. The Professional Football League (LFP) had however requested that the national anthem is played before every Ligue 1 this weekend. But the SC Bastia decided that, to honor the victims of the attacks in Paris, this will be the Diu Vi Salve Regina, a spiritual, former national anthem of the Corsican Republic in the 18th century, to be played and sung before the game.

In a statement published on its website, the club has detailed the program of pre-game tribute: “The singers begin the Diu Vi Salvi Regina, sacred chant by which, for centuries, Corsica is a tribute to the deceased, accompanying their families in mourning and pain. After the last verse, 130 white balls and 1 blue balloon will be released into the sky. This will be followed one minute applause during which banners -hommages will be deployed. These will then be attached to the grid for the duration of the meeting. ” No Marseillaise so.

La Marseillaise played in England and Italy

This measure she was taken to prevent the Marseillaise being whistled, as has often the case at football matches in Corsica? This is what seems to think the local press, which sees this as a way to “circumvent the controversy.”

On social networks, this new in any case seems to have enjoyed several Bastia fans:

In the Premier League, the English league football, the French anthem will be played before each matches of the weekend in solidarity pledge after the attacks in Paris. A similar decision was made in Italy.
