Jonah Lomu is dead – The Équipe.fr

Former New Zealander Jonah Lomu International died Wednesday morning in Auckland (New Zealand), at the age of 40 years. He was suffering from severe renal dysfunction (nephrotic syndrome) diagnosed in 1997 and that forced him to retire in 2002. Following a kidney transplant in 2004, he had briefly resumed his career. He then experienced a severe relapse in 2011.

The announcement was made by John Mayhew, the former All Blacks doctor. “ On behalf of Lomu family, I can confirm that Jonah died this (Wednesday) morning , he announced to local media. This was totally unexpected. He and his family returned to him last night in Britain and died suddenly this (Wednesday) morning . “

By his style of play, his size and power, Lomu became the star of world rugby. He held the record for the number of trials in the World Cup (15, record equaled this year by Bryan Habana), which included a memorable face the XV of France at the World Cup 1999 match the All Blacks have finally lost. Former winger shone at the 1995 World Cup in South Africa, where New Zealand climbed in the final.
