The emotion is palpable. Kevin Tillie grew up watching the images of Laurent exploits his dad, former international player who had failed in European final in 1987 and is now coach of the Blues. At only 24 years, he’s gold medalist, and ready to go to battle to qualify for the Rio Games.

How do you feel?
Kévin Tillie. An enormous satisfaction. This title is the result of months of work, the result of a summer during which there was a lot of work, a lot of sacrifice and a lot of pain. A World League, a European Championship, this is not nothing. We are experiencing a truly magical moment.

Do you have the feeling of being entered in the history of volleyball tricolor?
is being create history and it is an incredible feeling. We had this summer won the World League, where they bring a first European gold medal … It’s bound to be something.

And the story you live with Laurent, your dad now coach?
We all dream to become champion, he dreamed but never managed to do so. Win gold being coached by him makes me ecstatic. We did not talk after the game, we do not need it. I get to know what he thinks and I know he is very proud.

How did you feel about this final?
I admit that We were tired from our semifinal against Bulgaria (Editor’s note: carried 2-0 Saturday night, France had finally won 3-2) . We thought it was necessary to focus, one is back in the game. Especially in hot times, we managed to hold and pass.

This semifinal where you were done she has made 2-0 the turning point of this Euro?
I would say that the turning point was when we beat the Italians at home in the group stage. They are among the best players in the world, they have already qualified for the Olympics and were favorites. We were 2-0 and we won. That day, we realized that we could beat anybody.

There is much talk of the team Yavbou What is the Yavbou mind?
(He laughs) It’s madness and envy. The desire to smash everyone to beat anyone. Our team not afraid of anybody.

And such a want, how far can it take you?
Until the Rio Olympics. The regulation that even being champions of Europe, it is not yet qualified. It’s frustrating but true. And when something is against us, it helps us to fight. In January, we will have to wait because it will be very motivated to get our ticket.

We know many handball and basketball in France. ? Do you conduct a struggle for recognition
It’s kind of our battle and quite frankly, I hope it will allow the title to be publicized volleyball
