Monfils played intermittently, but it still has not lost a set – Eurosport.fr

It was the second all-French duel in the space of 24 hours in the third round. Like its predecessor, it was completed in three sets, a logical result, with the victory of Taulier facing qualified. As Pierre-Hugues Herbert against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Stéphane Robert has not managed the feat face Gael Monfils. The 35-year veteran was defeated in three sets (7-5, 6-3, 6-2) in less than two hours. But without demerits.

Robert can even feed some regrets, at least not taking a set. For in the first two rounds, he has enjoyed a substantial advantage with a double break in advance. Taking advantage of successive slumbers Monfils, Robert was initially led 5-2 and 40-15 on his serve in the opening set. Monfils then suddenly out of his torpor, finally taking advantage of the weaknesses of his opponent on second ball. The number 23 seed then enquille five games, including three breaks to win the first set 7-5, quasi-miraculous way.

Australian Open: Hlts Monfils vs. Robert – Eurosport

It was thought that Monfils had done the hard part, but once again, it is left to sleep by his elder. And Robert again took the lead thanks to two excellent games back to lead 3-0, Service to follow. But Monfils was the margin. He then pushed another big boost to align nine games in a row! This time, Robert, although touched physically, no longer had the weapons to respond and the third set turned into a formality.

Rest we felt at home a great pleasure to be on the Hisense Arena and Robert signed some very spectacular points that were delighting audiences, including this improbable concatenation forehand in the back / tweener / backhand passing winner welcomed as it should by the crowd. One of the points of the fortnight without a doubt. The adventure ends for him, but it was beautiful, just like two years ago when he reached the knockout stages. Certainly, Australia leave him good memories.

For Gael Monfils, the adventure continues. Le Parisien has benefited from a particularly mild table for now and he has made the most by moving up in the fourth round without dropping a set. And that’s not all, since, as Andrey Kuznetsov to face winner of Dudi Sela, it will benefit from very affordable eighth. When Tsonga will wrestle Simon Djokovic and Nishikori, with an obligation to exploit, leave him much of his favorite duel. To him to enjoy it. For this, he will have to show more consistency than Saturday, where he again played in sequence too. One of his guilty pleasures.
