The cheat sheet of Rennes-Marseille: OM sees the end of the tunnel, but there is not – Eurosport.fr

The game: Rennes has locked the sides … but in large open-axis

He quickly turned in favor of OM. The 4-2-3-1 concocted by Philippe Montanier was accompanied by a clear set: stretch the block width and lock the corridors. Objective: prevent Mendy Nkoudou (left) and Dja Djedje and Alessandrini (right) combine. To do this, the Breton coach had even lined up a side, Zeffane as a right midfielder.

If it has effectively neutralize some Olympians corridors, this strategy has had two perverse effects. First, it has pumped much of the energy of Rennes environments, including Dembélé therefore less lucid finishing. Secondly, it opened the boulevards in the axis which have rushed in Marseille. Either with the ball or by passes between lines and Cabella Batshuayi, OM entered the Rennes block at leisure. It is from there that came, including the Marseille goal. And that made the difference on Thursday.

Players: Cabella and Isla shone, Dembélé had fun Mendy

Tenured for only the second time in Ligue 1, Dembélé has confirmed the hopes placed in him. So much evil we see today how he could get out of the lineup Montanier. Dangerous right and left winger 18 years has obtained the most dangerous Rennes occasions. His major at just gossip, Boga, has struggled to a point. But it is much better facing the game back to goal, and top striker site does not seem to suit him best. Finally, he was a few balloons in Quintero to show the extent of his talent. He should have had a penalty late in the game.

Marseille side Mendy lived a very tough night, constantly battered by Rennes acceleration. Before its release to the half, Diarra was not, either, at its best, as when he entered Ocampos. Conversely, Isla was excellent, Cabella good enough. Nkoudou and Alessandrini, they were pretty well muzzled by the Breton defense. Defensively, Mandanda and Nkoulou were able to bring their experience in the hot moments.

What could change everything: An eleven more offensive Rennes

By leaving Quintero and Grosicki on the bench Montanier was probably shot in the foot. Their input has also contributed much to the SRFC. Overall, Rennes was too chilly, against a Marseille team far from impregnable.

Weekend stat: 1

OM lost only one of their last 7 League matches 1. With 4 wins and 2 draws, Marseille triggers a positive momentum that allows it to enter for the first time this season, in the top 10.

“It was a huge game. We’re not dead. Our true face, we shall show the progressively to move up in the standings.”

The question: Marseille is gone for good

?
After four months of instability, OM finally seems to regain some semblance of coherence. Technically, tactically, physically, this Marseille team no longer inspires the questioning she aroused there is some time to come. The renewal of eleven identical, four days after the draw against Monaco (3-3), symbolizes the desire for continuity worn by Michel.

In the game, automation start to create between Batshuayi and Nkoudou for example, but also between Nkoulou and Rekik, who finally seem to agree on how to place and align. Pleasant surprises, too, have emerged. Jumble: Isla middle, Nkoudou left Dja Djedje back to a comfortable level …

Last element of satisfaction: a spine sketch Mandanda to Batshuayi through Nkoulou, Diarra and Cabella. But the OM is not yet, of course, the level that should be his. It lacks regularity, individual and collective. He must decide, even more clearly, identity game. If the road is still long, OM (at least) deserves to be there. There is still some time, it was far from the case.
