FC Barcelona won the Club World Cup for the third time (a record), beating Argentina’s River Plate 3-0 thanks to a brace from Luis Suarez and a goal from Lionel Messi on Sunday in Yokohama (Japan).
Already a winner in 2009 and 2011, Barca, author of a hat-trick of Champions League King-Liga-Cup, so achieves quadrupled successor to Real Madrid at the winners of the World Club.
Barça, favorite, needed a little more than half an hour to break through the well organized and aggressive defense of the South American champions. And it is, of course, Lionel Messi has found the flaw to open the scoring in the 36th minute.
On the momentum, the Barcelona should have doubled their lead just before the break, but shot Suarez, after a nice pass from Messi, was passing by goals from Marcelo Barovero.
