Jo-Wilfried Tsonga eliminated in the quarterfinals by Marin Cilic (6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 6-4) – Eurosport.fr

This is the kind of game that is played on the details. And Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has paid the price this time. On the way to his first semifinal at the US Open, the Manceau was dominated by Marin Cilic great night in four hours of play (6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6 -4). And the least we can say is that the title holder clings as he can to his trophy.

Tuesday night, the Croat has shown a tremendous fighting spirit out of the way for the French who gave everything for the way down. But like a metronome, Cilic withstood Tsonga, returned to two sets all in saving three match points in the fourth set, then a fourth in the fifth act, before winning. By showing the way it will pass over him to stop.

Marin Cilic did not steal its twelfth straight victory at the US Open. The ninth world has shown its effectiveness in the first two sets by playing fair, strong and placed. Out of first serves in the service, Tsonga was especially brittle in the ninth game, he collapsed under the battering his opponent. Croatian took the opportunity to pocket the handle in stride, passing the French conceding the first set of his fortnight. JWT has lost his service for the second time in a fortnight at 2-2 in the second set, jealously guarded by Cilic advantage to carry two sets zero after 1h30 ‘game.

Manceau waited the first failures of his opponent to come to life in this game. They appeared in the eighth game of the third set, going back to one set all a few minutes later. And in the fourth round when the Croatian was unable to enter into this match on the obtained three match points at 5-4. It is priced at a stunning effort Tsonga saved his skin and his opponent embedded in a tiebreak, removed 7/3.

For the second time in a fortnight, would have to fight Cilic in five sets. But while fatigue could have come tickle his legs or his right ankle by ankle held throughout the meeting, the Croatian has not wavered. With 18 winning shots for five unforced errors, it was he who went to get the win. With 27% success behind his second ball, missed two more break points (nine out of ten in all) and a left knee began to whistle, Tsonga did not take the road.

As in 2011 against Roger Federer, the French thus stops in the quarterfinals at the US Open. For the second time in his career, his desire to rally the last New York square flew again. It is the only major tournament where there has not yet succeeded. This is the kind of detail on which the Manceau is sure to come back next year. Hoping a little more success the next time.
