PSG seeded Real in the hat 2: the consequences … – Eurosport.fr

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – With the new UEFA regulations, the PSG will be seeded at the draw for the group stage of the next Champions League. Real Madrid, he will not be and will be content with the hat 2. Explanations.

PSG will be seeded when the draw for the group stage of the 2015-16 Champions League on 28 August. This is not the fruit of his consistency in an event where he was a quarter-finalist for the third consecutive time this season. This is just the consequence of the new regulations introduced by UEFA from next season.

Previously, the seedings were defined solely on the UEFA index clubs. The new regulation takes into account the ranking of clubs that from the cap 2. The cap 1, the seeding is now made by the champions of the first seven nations in the UEFA index (Spain, England, Germany, Italy, Portugal, France and Russia) and the defending champion of the event.

Since the final of the Champions League will oppose two clubs already crowned champions in countries amongst the top seven nations in the UEFA index, FC Barcelona and Juventus, the Regulation provides that in this case country champion ranked in eighth place in the UEFA index, namely PSV Eindhoven, the Netherlands champion, or placed in Pot 1, among the top seeds.

Here the composition of the cap 1 for the draw for the group stage of the 2015-16 Champions League:

Several clubs have been placed in Pot 1 with the former Regulations will find themselves in the hat 2. This is the case of Real Madrid. Merengue club is leading the ranking of clubs in the UEFA index, but had to settle for second place in the championship, behind FC Barcelona. It will therefore not be seeded at the draw for the group stage of the next Champions League.

The composition of the hat 1 for this draw would, in the old regulation was as follows, taking into account the current ranking of clubs to UEFA hint:

Real Madrid 171.885 dots
Barcelona 162.885 dots
Bayern Munich 154.883 dots
Chelsea 142.078 dots
Atlético Madrid (if 3rd Liga) 120.885 dots
Benfica 118.276 dots
                   FC Porto

111.276 dots
Arsenal (Premier League if 3rd) 110.078 dots

Juventus (14th in the ranking of clubs in the UEFA index), PSG (10th), Zenit St. Petersburg (15th) and PSV Eindhoven (30th) and would not figure in the hat with the old one regulation. The new was established to give more weight to national champions when the draw for the group stage of the Champions League. This does not guarantee them a random milder fate, since the cap 2 will be even more pointed.
