In tribute to Furiani, there will be more football in France on May 5th … when it falls on a Saturday – Eurosport.fr

Twenty-three years later, Furiani recognized national drama. The sports ministry announced Wednesday that the catastrophe that resulted from the collapse of a stadium grandstand Armand Cesari, Bastia in 1992, was recognized national drama.

It was a longstanding claim of Bastia fans and many players in French football. The date of May 5 will, in turn, partly sacred. When it falls on a Saturday, no more football game (professional or amateur) will dispute it. It therefore concerns, for the next 20 seasons, the years 2018, 2029 and 2035.

The rest of the time, the tribute will mean minutes of silence before the meetings and wearing black armbands in particular. The sports ministry also announced that annual ceremony would be held to commemorate the catastrophe of May 5, 1992.

That day, an entire stadium grandstand Armand Cesari Bastia collapsed during a semifinals Coupe de France between Bastia in Marseille, killing 18 people and injuring 2,357 spectators. In 2012, the LFP had already decided to cancel meetings on May 5, to the twenty years of the disaster.
