Quintana has yet to attack! – Sports.fr

After the attack in the ascent to La Toussuire, Nairo Quintana took over 32 seconds to Chris Froome. But the yellow jersey still has 2’38 ” ahead of the runner before the last Alpine stage scheduled Saturday. A gap that seems irremediable for the Colombian who nevertheless played his all in Alpe d’Huez.

The public, the media and viewers were left unsatisfied. Considered the best climber in the world and as a runner on offensive temperament Nairo Quintana had not really lived up to its reputation so far in the Tour de France 2015. While seated in the wheel of Chris Froome, Colombian seemed to settle for second place, leaving it to Alberto Contador, Vincenzo Nibali and teammate Alejandro Valverde care to titillate the British yellow jersey.

The rider of Movistar was perhaps all simply unable to accelerate at the breaking point following the torrid pace printed by Sky. But after the swallowed kilometers of ascent in the wake of “Froomey”, the winner of the 2014 Giro, found the resources to attack five kilometers from the finish of the 19th stage by exploding the group of favorites. Isolated for the first time since his victorious breakaway of Pierre-Saint-Martin, the yellow jersey has tried to limit the gap and is rather well out, conceding just 32 seconds on his rival, second to cross the finish line in La Toussuire behind Vincenzo Nibali.

“The day went very well, but lacked the final touch, Quintana responded. J ‘looked the best time to attack Froome, but it was not enough. “ Because, even with 2’38′ ‘behind, the South American is too far to expect a takeover Saturday night on the eve of the arrival. It nevertheless counts on this 20th stage and the arrival at Alpe d’Huez to try one last gallant last stand: “Tomorrow (Saturday) is another day, we will try the whole for all. We hope to back to attack and also run for the stage win. “ A great battle in perspective.
