Champions League: Monaco inherits Young Boys Bern on 3rd … – Liberation

As luck held out for AS Monaco, which will compete in the third qualifying round of the Champions League against Young Boys Berne former Parisian Guillaume Hoarau, according The draw made in Nyon on Friday at UEFA headquarters.

Quarter-finalist surprise of the previous edition, ASM had the advantage of being seeded for the draw, but could fear of falling on Fenerbahçe’s new stars (Van Persie, Nani) and its public hot.

It is ultimately the Shakhtar Donetsk, 8th finalist last season, who inherited the “Fener” for what constitutes the shock of the third round. In this “way of the League” regarding non clubs champions Sparta Prague, Rapid Vienna and Panathinaikos were the three other possible Monegasque opponents at this stage of the competition, where for three seasons now the third in Ligue 1 began his campaign C1.

And for the third consecutive season, a Swiss-French confrontation will take place (leg in Berne on 28 or 29 July in the Principality leg on 4 or 5 August)! In 2013, Lyon had passed this round at the expense of Grasshopper Zurich and last year, it’s Lille who in turn released the same opponents.

But the two French clubs had then fallen dams respectively against Real Sociedad and Porto were donated in Europa League dams. A fate that awaits Monaco when disposal against the club of the Swiss capital.

If instead Monaco qualifies, it will no longer benefit this time in his series of head protection and any other opponent the wait dams (18-19 and 25-26 August) last hurdle before the group stage which already qualified the Paris SG and Lyon

-. A little-known opponent –

This will be the ogre Manchester United, broken at C1 Valencia and Leverkusen which profileront and the two other best UEFA coefficients derived from this 3rd round, possibly Shakhtar Donetsk and Ajax Amsterdam or Sporting Lisbon .

But before that, he’ll have the young Monegasque team, recently reinforced by the loan by AC Milan in the Italian striker Stephan El Shaarawy, show the same seriousness appropriate to the Cup Europe than in the previous year it has often transcended to afford a superb course.

Leonardo Jardim’s men are first released in leading a balanced group (Leverkusen, Zenit St -Petersburg, Benfica), then they eliminated Arsenal in 8th finals before falling in the quarterfinals, head high, facing the future Juventus finalist of the event.

Apart from the presence in their ranks Hoarau, little known players come off Young Boys otherwise the experienced Swiss international defender Steve Von Bergen and the Serbian winger Miralem Sulejmani.

So much so that for ASM certainly stripped by the departure of Geoffrey Kondogbia (Inter Milan) and Yannick Ferreira Carrasco (Atletico Madrid), the Bernese club, who finished second in the Swiss league and was eliminated in 16th final of the Europa League by Everton last season, appears widely in range.
