Federer saved five match points – Sports.fr

It took 2:41 to Roger Federer to beat Leonardo Mayer in Shanghai Masters 1000, after a meeting of madness where he will have saved no less than five balls match (7-5, 3-6, 7-6). With this success, the Swiss took the opportunity to get the second place worldwide, previously owned by Rafael Nadal.

It would not have taken a few inches to Roger Federer, hours after Stan Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal, in turn disappear into the night in Shanghai, from his opening match. But those few inches, that of the band of the net, allowed the Swiss to stay alive in a match he eventually won, opposite Leonardo Mayer (7-5, 3-6, 7-6) after saved no less than five match.

This is the first that Argentina may have missed his chance, seeing his passing backhand hit the net tape and back into his own camp. Unhappy, Mayer, who would frankly deserved to win this match strikers (91 forehand winners, 45 points won at the net by both players), where it is Federer who has committed the most errors (57, so a good package gross mistakes), while his opponent was playing probably one of the best matches of his career.

But Federer, therefore, escaped by a narrow margin, winning the first race after have débreaké to 4-5 after a game extending, before reversing steam in a tie-break where he has been led 5-2 and saved three of these famous five match. And for Switzerland, that victory is not trivial. Here he is in fact steals 2nd place overall, Rafael Nadal had to know in danger after his defeat in the afternoon to face Feliciano Lopez. For Federer, the rest of the tournament will still Spanish, Roberto Bautista-Agut awaits in the fourth round.
