The Astana team has decided to self-suspend for a week accordance with the rules of the Movement for a credible cycling (MPCC), following the positive drug test a second runner of its workforce in less than twelve months.

The decision, announced Monday by the MPCC, deprives the team led by Alexandre Vinokourov of the next Tour of Beijing (October 10 to 14), the last race of the world calendar of the season, and two Italian semi-classics, the Tour of Emilia and GP Beghelli.

“The whole team will be off during this period. This temporary suspension of the activity of the team is to implement any corrective action it deems appropriate, “said the MPCC.

The third team to apply this sanction

Since this summer, the Kazakh formation had two runners declared “positive” for EPO, Valentin Iglinskiy and lately his brother Maxim, who did not seek for second opinion against its control suffered 1 August.

“The MPCC has implemented on a voluntary basis, a more stringent than international bodies settlement”, said the MPCC chaired by Roger Legeay. “In this context, the Astana team member since 2013, applies the regulations that provide self-suspension from the team for a period of eight days from the first day of the next WorldTour race.”

Astana is the third training to apply this sanction after Rusvelo and AG2R La Mondiale, who also faced two doping cases in their workforce on a short period in the past.
