Giant Yuzawa Naeba “A special moment” for Alexis Pinturault and Mathieu Faivre – The Équipe.fr

Alexis Pinturault, who won the giant Yuzawa Naeba (Japan): “I do not even know that Mathieu (Faivre, finally 2nd) was before me before I jumped. I come down, I see that I’m first, I’m happy. I look a little bit more and I see Mathieu. There were only fritz dopfer to go (finally 7th). It was really a special time to share it with him. This is his first podium!

I am really happy to win in giant because it is my strong discipline, that there really is the level of competition. That’s where I know I am most able to beat Marcel Hirscher. At the start of a giant, there are favorites but you do not know who will win. It is really fun to win again this discipline was not smiling too much since the beginning of the season. The track was beautiful, the organizers did a great job, it was a good race. It was pretty hot in the second inning that dug a little, but I managed to be smart when they should. “

Mathieu Faivre, second in the giant Naeba Yuzawa (Japan): “it was time that I waited this first podium. And that’s when I least expected it to go get it came. I made a big second inning, the first was good but not amazing. The track was quite flat but now I do not ask any more questions, I wonder more if the track will suit me or not.

I’ve put enough things in place to produce my ski everywhere, I proved I could go fast. I stay focused on my skiing and not on what is happening around. I was absolutely convinced it was going to happen, now we must continue working to resume the podium. I am leaving with the points and confidence. “
