Nadal ended up exploding Monfils – Eurosport.fr

A clash of titans! After an absolutely sumptuous final for two sets, Rafael Nadal has defeated Gael Monfils in the final of the Masters 1000 Monte Carlo on Sunday after a fight 2h45 won in three sets (7-5, 5-7 , 6-0). Monfils soon face a great day, the Spaniard had to draw on its reserves to clinch a ninth coronation on the Rock, the first since 2012, and a 28th Masters 1000 which allows it to match the record set by Novak Djokovic in Miami. Four years later, Rafa is the new king in Monaco.

Unbelievable for two sets, Gael Monfils pulled out a capital provision for his third Masters final in 1000. But too short physically, he has not taken on all three sets and suffered a severe 6-0 in the deciding set. He leaves this week with huge Monegasque benchmarks for following his season ocher. But at a time to take stock of this final, he can still eat a lot of regrets.

Monstrous in the first act, and capable of snapping shots winners backhand and forehand which he alone has the secret, the Parisian posted its most beautiful face on the day, which was its main defect (18 losses in 23 finals ). He missed him a little more consistency, especially on serve, where he conceded 21 break points, hope to pick Nadal on clay. Yet there has never been closer.

A final 13 breaks, Nadal has almost regained his forehand

Nadal has not had it easy. Unable to confirm each of his many break obtained in this final – 8 of the general meeting – the Spaniard was a logical winner. But he never walked on this final. Constantly echoed by Monfils in the first round – 3-1 and 5-3 – he had to get as a great gain the first round 6-5 in his favor. Armed with a forehand to the length found he perfectly used his weapons and playing forward when he had to. More comprehensive than ever, it also shone in reverse, where he dépatouillé more complicated situations.

Manacor The player is then turned into a hunter party Monfils on hats wheels but unable to stay ahead long (break at 1-1 and débreak to 3-1 in his favor). Resourceful, the Parisian overcame all the hard knocks of this second act disjointed and uneven. Between some nice points, had to fight to survive in both camps.

Nadal was 3-4 against him, going again seek débreak the French service. The latter then finally got hold of the set with his fifth break point on Nadal service before looping over its service. A real mishmash of inconstancy. But the weakness of the two men behind their second – 41% and 30% in Monfils Nadal – justified the thirteen breaks occurred during the final.

To move this Nadal, you had to be an alien

Very consistent behind his first serve (72%), Rafael Nadal went then pick the French on a plateau in the last inning. Tired by this bitter fight, Monfils was never in the game to hope to come back after the loss of his commitment, Nadal 1-0. Multiplying unforced errors (51 in the match against Nadal at 36), the 16th player in the world quickly capitulated.

His searing groundstrokes and exceptional ground cover have yet pushed far, far away Sunday and confirmed that it was another player. But Nadal to move it, you had to be an alien. Without entire week is perfect, Nadal finally found in part that the court had given him no so long. So, more than ever, highly Roland Garros.
