France followed suit. After months of refusal, the Professional Football League has finally decided to adopt the “goal line technology” in the championship of France. This video technology, which allows to determine whether a ball has crossed or not the goal line, will take effect at the start of next season. This revolution will affect only the League 1. League and two League Cup are not affected, nor is the Coupe de France. But realistically, what will it change for the elite of French football

& gt;? & Gt; The principle: the LFP will pay for its implementation

The operation of this technology requires the use of more than a dozen cameras, set near the cage and the line goal. LFP there was however fiercely opposed for months, citing its high cost. Team and advanced a total of 200,000 to 300,000 euros for its installation on each stage of Ligue 1. “But it’s now cheaper. And given the considerable drop in prices, I ‘ have considered that France had no right to stay away from what is happening elsewhere, “said the president of the LFP, Frédéric Thiriez to justify his about-face.

Other news of the man with the mustache League supervise and fully fund the establishment of the “goal line technology”. Thiriez however announced that the bodies of French football had not yet made their choice on the system that will be used next season. “We must now establish specifications, see the two main operators, English and German Goalcontrol Hawkeye,” said he said

Two video technologies, with two very similar operations, compete in this market: the “Goalcontrol” and “Hawkeye”. The “Goalcontrol” was used successfully during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. This system was validated a goal from Karim Benzema in the 48th minute of the first round match between France and Honduras. England Premier League stadiums are all equipped with the famous “Hawk-Eye”, a system already used in tennis. Since its establishment, the English referees there were often used without any problems (see video below).

France and follows the movement initiated by the major European leagues. The “goal line technology” also come into force in Germany and Italy early next season. It will also be used during the Women’s World Cup in June in Canada

& gt;. & Gt; A case in point: OM-Lyon (0-0) on March 15 last

The adoption of goal line technology will greatly assist League arbitrators 1. In the match between OM and OL, on 15 March, a textbook case had provoked the wrath of the Marseille players. At the 84th minute, the OM Lucas Ocampos mid threw himself to push the ball to the funds of the nets, but Lyon goalkeeper had stepped narrowly on the goal line. But after several replays, the images were clear: the ball had indeed crossed the line, and the goal should have been granted to OM. In defense of the man in black, it was impossible for him or his assistants seen, while Ocampos and Lopes were fighting on the goal line.

In the end, OM and OL had parted on a goalless (0- 0), to the chagrin of Marseilles. Dimitri Payet, who had unleashed his frustration by hurling insults to the referees’ dressing room, was then sentenced to two-match suspension. Next year, it will be enough to ask the referees the use of goal line technology to avoid such controversy.
