LFP: No new mandate for Frédéric Thiriez – Eurosport.fr

“ As for the League, he needs a generational change, as FIFA, UEFA or the French Federation further notes Frédéric Thiriez, 63. Place the young. A little new blood, it does not hurt the League. And I’m not worried. There will be plenty of quality candidates.

Director of the LFP since 1995, he had assumed the presidency in May 2002, succeeding Gerard Bourgoin. In late February, he was chosen to head the World Association of Football Leagues created in December, which means “ the voice of professional football in the proceedings, a voice that is not vindictive but constructive “, he explained in an interview with AFP.

In late December, the UCPF historic union of professional clubs abandoned by Ligue 1 clubs (except Guingamp) who gathered in a new structure, Premier League, requested the resignation of Frédéric Thiriez, saying it had “ failed in its duty by not playing its role as unifier.

Instances of French football have had multiple fractures since the summer of 2015, between elite clubs and other professional clubs on the one hand and between the LFP and the French Football Federation. The president of that body, Christmas Graët had so severely tackled Frederic Thiriez in December, ensuring “ 100% of journalists consider Thiriez knows nothing about soccer .” Both instances were against including the question of the number of ascents / descents between the first three divisions record on which the State Council finally agreed with the Federation.
