In an explosive report, released Monday, November 9th, an independent commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency ( AMA) recommends the suspension of the Russian Athletics Federation, accused of multiple offenses related to doping.
The commission said they “identified systemic failures within the IAAF (International Federation Athletics) and Russia “ that ” prevented or reduced “ the implementation of an effective program to fight against doping. A practice that “could not have existed” without the approval of the Russian government.
The Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko, reacted by stating, at first , WADA “does not have the right to suspend” Russia. If for Mr Mutko, the problem of doping in Russia is no worse than in other countries, then assured that Russia “monitor” the recommendations of the IAAF and the WADA.

“The information revealed by the Independent Inquiry Committee of WADA are alarming. We need time to digest and understand all the details. “
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said trusting Mr. Coe to take ” all necessary measures “ after the release of the “deeply shocking and very sad report for the sports world.”
Olympics Private Russia in 2016?
Accusing the whole system Russian politics and sports, WADA calls for end of accreditation for the anti-doping laboratory in Moscow, leading the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).
If the proposed sanctions were adopted by the IAAF, they would prevent Russian athletes to participate in all sanctioned competitions, such as the Rio Olympics in 2016 and the World Championships and the European Athletics. Russia is one of the nations that historically dominate athletics, with 17 medals, including 8 gold, at the London Olympics in 2012.
The AMA believes that the Olympics were “sabotaged” by the presence of doped Russian athletes, and therefore recommends the suspension to life five Russian athletes:
- Four runners 800 m: Mariya Savinova, Olympic champion 2012; Ekaterina Poistogova, bronze medalist in 2012; Anastasiya Bazdyreva and Tatjana Myazina;.
- 1500 m runner, Kristina Ugarova
