Djokovic: “I am not content with the status quo, it would be a regression” – Eurosport.fr

you expect with such a clear victory?

ND: Well, I think I pulled out my best performance of the week and she arrived at the right time.

What made the difference in your favor today?

ND: I think I have managed to remain very solid from the first point. I think I played really well, much like in Shanghai. I reached high intensity, I was able to really stay on my bottom line and dominate trade.

Novak Djokovic with his trophy – Panoramic

Are there was a mini moment of doubt in the second set, when he débreaké then led 0-30 to 3-2 about your service?

ND: A 0-30 3/2, maybe things could change and be different, as was the case yesterday against Stan. I managed to squeeze the game and save my service. From there, I felt I had a good chance to finish the match in two sets.

In the beginning of the second set, 6-2, 1-1, while you control the game, we saw furious after you lost the point. There was no fire yet. Why this anger this time?

ND: At this level, against a player like Andy that can quickly reverse the situation, it was necessary to be very careful. That’s why I was so frustrated at times, especially in the second set. I absolutely do not want to lose my rhythm, the momentum that I had set up, because if you let it, it will immediately take over you. That’s why I was pretty tense. I’m like that, it’s part of me.

Novak Djokovic against Andy Murray in the final of the BNP Paribas Masters – AFP

We are late in the season. Physically, how do you judge your state?

ND: All the players here and there, some minor pain and stiffness. I’m not different. Of course, I try to handle it as best as possible. Overall, frankly, I feel good physically, I do not have big problems that concern me.

Now, it remains the Masters, the last effort. How do you approach?

ND: I will continue to do what I’ve done so far, there is no reason for me to change. I have no reason to slow the pace of training and performance either. This will be the last tournament of the year. This is a very big tournament where I have had very good results in the past. I hope to repeat the performance or success I have won in previous years. After the season I had, and with the confidence that I have gained, I think I can finish there with another great victory.

You have upgraded your 2011 season, yet already extraordinary. What explains why you’re so hard this year?

ND: There is no single reason that can explain more but I reach my peak. I think that mentally and physically, I reached my peak and also in my experience. In the past, I played a lot of matches that led me to find myself where I am today. All I have lived me a lesson.

            Think close to perfection today?

N.D.: Nobody can be perfect. If you are looking for perfection, you may be able to excellence. This is my mindset. I work every day with this. I am not content with the status quo, because for me would be a regression.
